  1. Beverly West is owned by Emaar Corporation, a Dubai basewd company that is alleged to use torture and mistreat its workers in Dubai:

Los Angeles: In an open letter to Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa, Dubai based Emaar Properties best known for building the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai stands accused of torture, racism, and human rights violation for its treatment of US citizen Lionel Lombard. Emaar is also active in the US residential building market including Los Angeles.

After Lombard complained about racism at one of Emaar’s properties in Dubai, Lombard was repeatedly harassed by Emaar’s security guards and subjected to slurs because of his race. When he took his case directly to Emaar’s chairman, Mohammed Ali Alabbar, Lombard was imprisoned for almost two years in the United Arab Emirates, beaten and tortured.

All charges against Lombard were dropped in February 2010 without explanation after intervention by the US Consulate. Lombard has filed a lawsuit against Alabbar and Emaar under the Torture Victim Protection Act in a California Federal Court.
