Maria the Goose Becomes Mario, Draining Echo Park Lake

In a follow up to my previous story about Maria the Echo Park Goose who was to be relocated, with all the other geese and ganders at the lake, it turns out that Maria is in fact Mario! The now famous gander was moved to the L.A. Zoo for her own protection.  You know, the price of fame.  It was there that the mistake was discovered. Echo Park to Drain its Lake For Two Years. Maria the Goose is Not Happy

Echo Park Lake, the heart and soul of Echo Park, is to be drained for two years to make way for a $65 million clean up project. The 13-acre lake was built in 1860 as a water supply reservoir.  Los Angeles Public Works officials plan to remove years of pollution from the lake and make it more sustainable with better water quality.
