Where should I live in Los Angeles?
Here are some points to consider:
Proximity to your workplace, if you are going to be commuting every day. As you possibly may have heard, Los Angeles traffic can be a little congested. Depending on the time of day a 5 mile journey could take up to half an hour
Do you want a view? If you do, you should head for the hills.

Echo Park – great for access to Downtown Los Angeles
Silver Lake – close to Downtown Los Angeles
The hills of Brentwood
The hills of Beverly Hills
Bel Air and Holmby Hills, just north of Westwood
And of course there is the Hollywood Hills.
You are moving to Los Angeles and want to get a feel of it before committing, try renting. You might even be able to negotiate a lease purchase if the landlord is willing. But it is an excellent way to experience living in Los Angeles.
